NAURU, March 28: Veteran Satish Rai claimed gold in the 77 kg category as India's medal tally went up to nine, on the second day of the Commonwealth weightlifting championships here last night. G Vadiveli and P Khoni Devi bagged a silver each on the same day.India had won six medals three gold, two silver and one bronze on the opening day.
Satish Rai made clean six lifts for highest total of 320 kgs (140 kg, 180 kg). The Indian lifter was all concentration and confidence. He made flawless lifts of 125, 132.5 and 140 kg (snatch) and 165, 175, 180 kg (jerk).In the women's section, P Khoni Devi threw away gold in 69 kg category after letting her concentration flag.
Khoni started with 70 kgs but missed her second and third attempts of 75 kgs in the snatch. S Ingrain (New Zealand) took the top slot with 177.5 kg.In the men's 69 kg category, G Vadiveli lifted 272.5 kg for his first international silver medal.
