A-I announces discounts in fares

MUMBAI: Employees of Central and state government, public sector undertakings, nationalised banks, insurance companies, statutory and autonomous bodies, and their families, travelling under the leave travel concession rules between April 15 and July 15, can avail of 50 per cent discounted fares on Air-India's domestic flights. The scheme has been introduced to coincide with the summer holidays. It is valid for travel on the following sectors: between Mumbai-Delhi, Mumbai-Chennai, Mumbai-Calcutta, Mumbai-Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai-Bangalore, Mumbai-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Mumbai and Goa, between Delhi-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Chennai, an AI release said.

Mody summoned

JAMSHEDPUR: First Judicial Magistrate of Jamshedpur K K Singh on Friday issued summons to former Tisco managing director and corporate heavyweight Russi Mody for allegedly assaulting a voter here on February 19. Complainant S K Jha, in his petition, said that Mody and hissupporters tried to persuade him to vote for the former and when he refused, Mody abused him and his supporters assaulted him.

Speaker's panel

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi on Saturday announced a new panel of chairpersons to help him conduct business in the House. The seven senior members of the House chosen for the job are P M Sayeed, K Pradhani, Laxminarin Pandey, Rita Verma, K Yerran Naidu, V Sathyamurthy and Basudev Acharya. Members from the panel take turns in presiding over the proceedings in the House in the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

Explosives seized

CHENNAI: The city police on Saturday arrested a family of four, including two women, for allegedly harbouring members of the outlawed `Al-Umma' and seized 77 kg of deadly explosives, in an early morning raid on their house in Arumbakkam area on Saturday.

RI for ex-DGP

GUWAHATI: Former Assam Director General of Police Jnananda Sarma Pathak has been sentenced to threeyears Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs 30 lakh by a special court for amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income. Justice K K Das on Friday also sentenced the former DGP to another year of imprisonment in case he failed to pay the fine. Pathak was granted bail till May 25.
