Amal Dutta returns as Bagan coach

CALCUTTA: National Football League (NFL) champions Mohun Bagan today reappointed Amal Dutta as their football coach for one year. The statement also carried the acceptance note of Dutta who would be the coach of the club from April 1, 1998 to March 31, 1999. Dutta was removed after getting allegedly involved in a rigged match, would have full say in the technical aspects of the football affairs of the club besides, looking after the existing junior football team of the club.

Chatunni was made coach of the club for four months after the removal of Dutta and successfully carried Mohun Bagan to the NFL title. Chatunni was asked to continue under the same terms. He refused.

Kannan bows out

NEW DELHI: Promising junior Vijay Kannan of India lost in the semi-finals of the ITF Junior world ranking tennis tournament, Group 3 held in Jakarta (Indonesia) from March 23-29, according to reports received here. Kannan went down fighting 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 to Indonesia'sWidhianto.

Kannan and Widhianto paired together to reach the doubles final where they lost 6-2, 3-6, 4-6 to Messon Jerazen and De Voesk.

Pak team arrives

CHANDIGARH: After the Pakistan hockey team had returned to their home winning the eight-Test series, now a 22-member circle kabaddi team from across the Wagha Border arrived today to play a five-Test series.
