The paintings of Delhi-based artists, Punam Khosla and Sarab Soni, offer an interesting contrast. While Khosla, who graduated from Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai, delights in visual impressions, Soni is happy splashing, pouring and scraping paint on the canvas till she has an abstract which pleases her.And their works are on show together at the Son-et-Lumiere Art Gallery. Says Khosla, "Mumbai is the city which first opened my mind to the possibilities of the sea and my works are rooted in the sea, growing out of deep beds of contemplation and delight. But the mood is vivid and light not burdened by inner meaning." Soni meanwhile has been influenced greatly by Jason Pollock, the American abstract painter. For her, painting is energy finding expression in a particular way. "I use vivid colours from opposing ends of the spectrum, greying their intensity with streaks of colour. And the pattern I arrive at is interesting on its own not referring back to external sources," she says. At Son-Et-Lumiere ArtGallery, Colaba from April 06 to April 11, 1998.
