Paes to decide on playing today

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, March 31: Leander Paes will decide on his participation in the Gold Flake Open tennis tournament in Chennai, tomorrow. Even though the doctors are insisting on a four-week rest they also understand that tournaments are important to him. Speaking from his home in Orlando, Florida, Paes told The Indian Express that he has started playing a bit but is yet to start serving. "Either way, it is going to be a tough decision for me," he said. "I don't want to miss a Tour event at home, but then even if I go to Chennai I may play only singles."

The MRI taken in Orlando has shown a slight tear in the rotator cuff. That would mean that he has to be really careful before taking the plunge into playing again. Paes will find out how the shoulder takes it tomorrow. "If it doesn't hold up I will have to decide on staying back and taking two weeks rest. I have already rested for two weeks and my priority is to take care of my shoulder more than anything else."

"It is absolutely disappointing to miss aDavis Cup tie. It is upto the boys to try and play to the best of their abilities. No doubt, it is going to be a tough assignment for them playing a live rubber and then the doubles."
