Assembly no to Council move on Mayor bill

MUMBAI: THE State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday night rejected a motion passed by the Congress controlled Council that the Mumbai Mayor-in-Council bill be referred to a joint select committee of both Houses. According to rules, the government will have to introduce the bill for a second time in the Lower House for passing and if it was passed, it would become an Act without needing endorsement of the Upper House.

Jawans killed

GANGTOK: Fourteen army jawans were killed and five more are feared to have met their end when a massive avalanche buried an army camp at 14,000-foot-high Thangu in north Sikkim on Tuesday.
