VP's sub-text: To speak on HDW deal if CBI is willing
Former Prime Minister V P Singh has said that he is ready to "divulge information in the Rs 420-crore HDW submarine scam". Singh added that the investigation agency, the CBI, had not approached him so far. Singh, who was defence minister at the time of the deal, had resigned from the Rajiv Gandhi cabinet soon after.

Moopanar is a friend: Sonia
Congress President Sonia Gandhi yesterday took two significant steps towards rebuilding the party: First of all, she practically invited Tamil Maanila Congress chief G K Moopanar and his colleagues to rejoin the Congress. She then attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government for its "duplicity" -- her first such criticism -- thus giving some shape to the party's political line.

Five petro products' prices cut
The public sector oil companies have reduced the prices of five petro-products that will be decontrolled from Wednesday. Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation have announced that naphtha, furnace oil (FO), low sulphur heavy stock (LSHS), bitumen and light diesel oil (LDO) will be considerably cheaper following deregulation.

Shape up in three months, Thackeray tells alliance Govt
Continuing his tirade against Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Monday night gave a three-month ultimatum to the three-year-old Sena-BJP Government to improve its image and performance. Thackeray's statement came at a high level party meeting on Monday night, which he attended despite his recent declaration to keep off active politics.
