  Israel plays down threat of clash with Washington
Israel played down the threat of a showdown with Washington today after US peace envoy Dennis Ross failed in his latest bid to broker a resumption of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted there was no crisis while other Israeli officials blamed Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat for the stalemate.
  Romanian PM Ciorbea quits
Romania's embattled Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea resigned on Monday under increasing pressure from within his own government after charges of incompetence. Ciorbea was expected to make an official announcement later in a television address to the nation.

Cambodia claims fresh forays into Khmer Rouge base
Cambodian troops and Khmer Rouge defectors have made slow but steady progress into the rebels' northern stronghold of Anlong Veng and have captured a tank, according to senior military officers. They said that about 200 more fighters had joined the government on Monday and were participating in the effort to take the remaining guerrilla areas.
Ageing MiG 25R develop "bulges"
Several of the Indian Air Force's (IAF) MiG 25R aircraft have developed structural problems lately. For instance, the rivets which fasten the skin to the fuselage or aircraft body of the MiG 25R have come loose, creating various problems. The IAF has approached Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) MiG complex at Nashik to repair these aircraft.

Trial of Harkat leaders demanded
Various Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) organisations have demanded that key members of the Pak-based Harkat-Ul-Ansar terrorist outfit be tried by an international tribunal for their self-admitted execution of five foreign hostages in Kashmir. They also demanded that the Pakistan army and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) also be tried for training and arming the dreaded terrorist outfit.
Clinton lawyers for case against Jones' attorneys
US President Bill Clinton's lawyers said Paula Jones' legal team should be cited with contempt for violating a gag order and disclosing the identity of a woman allegedly assaulted by Clinton more than 20 years ago. They claimed that Jones' lawyers were trying to taint the jury pool with false information.
