  VP's sub-text: To speak on HDW deal if CBI is willing
Former Prime Minister V P Singh has said that he is ready to "divulge information in the Rs 420-crore HDW submarine scam". Singh added that the investigation agency, the CBI, had not approached him so far. Singh, who was defence minister at the time of the deal, had resigned from the Rajiv Gandhi cabinet soon after.
  "Hidden" agenda dominates LS
The Bharatiya Janata Party government today emerged from its second test by fire in a week with Parliament passing the motion of thanks on the Presidential address. But it was singed by the Opposition raising once again what it called the party's hidden agenda.

Tripura minister slain by militants
In the first strike against a high-ranking politician, Tripura Health Minister Bimal Sinha and his younger brother Bidyut were yesterday shot dead by militants of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) when they were going to negotiate the release of their third brother from militants' captivity.
Vajpayee needs time to get the `feel' of power
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee yesterday made a faux pas in the Lok Sabha when he referred to senior Congress leader Balram Jakhar as a member of the treasury benches. "It will take sometime for old habits to die," Vajpayee, who has been in the Opposition benches for nearly four decades, told an amused House when his slip was pointed out.

Moopanar is a friend: Sonia
Congress President Sonia Gandhi yesterday took two significant steps towards rebuilding the party: First of all, she practically invited Tamil Maanila Congress chief G K Moopanar and his colleagues to rejoin the Congress. She then attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government for its "duplicity" -- her first such criticism -- thus giving some shape to the party's political line.
TNCC invites TMC to merge
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) has reiterated its call for reunification of the break-away Tamil Maanila Congress with the TNCC. The TMC asserted that such a move would be relevant and necessary in the light of political compulsions.
