Pending power

India's National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is the ninth largest thermal power generating companies in the world. Its stations across the country generated 106 billion units of power registering an increase of 7.19 per cent over last. And this amounted to over 25 per cent of the total power generated in India.

But for all its performance, the company suffers from non-payment of dues from different electricity boards. While its net turnover was Rs 12,629 crore, its profit was Rs 2,000 crore. But its outstandings from different boards is about half of its turnover and three times its profits. TThe various electricity boards owe it Rs 6796 crore. Of the various boards, the Delhi Vidyut Board tops the list with RS 1355 crore, while Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Boards come next.
