Govt won't rush on Jain report

ENS & AGENCIES
CHENNAI, April 5: Petroleum Minister K Ramamurthy said here today that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government would take "its own time," like the United Front government, to place the Jain Commission's final report in Parliament.

"Whatever compulsions the United Front government had in delaying the release of the interim report, the same compulsion continues for the present government also in placing the report," he said at a press conference.

"We are not going to hide anything. The BJP-led coalition government is committed to total transparency and the final report will definitely be tabled in Parliament." Asked how soon, he said, "Wait and see".

Refusing to offer his comments on the excerpts of the final report that had appeared in a section of the press recently, Ramamurthy said he would prefer to wait till the final report was officially out.

Recalling Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) leader G K Moopanar's observations yesterday that he was aware of the details 20 days ago, Ramamurthy said hewould only blame the United Front government which was in power 20 days ago.

Referring to Moopanar's observations that the final report contained some "explosive information," Ramamurthy asked Moopanar to "explode them". He alleged that former Finance Minister and TMC leader P Chidambaram was one of the persons who had "invited Rajiv Gandhi to Sriperumbudur on that fateful day".

Reiterating his demand for the dismissal of the DMK government, he said the situation that existed in 1977, 1980 and 1991 held good even now. The government should come out with a "white paper" on the explosives seized.
