Entry of foreign media opposed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 5: Former president R Venkataraman has vehemently opposed entry of foreign print media in the country and also expressed concern over concentration of ownership in hands of business community. He was speaking at the inaugural function of a two-day International Conference of World Association of Press Councils here yesterday. "There is absolutely no justification to even think of foreigners being allowed to own and manage print media in this country either on their own or in collaboration with some Indians," he said.

"Foreigners cannot be permitted to influence national policies through their instruments to the detriment of national interests," Venkataraman said.
