  Cong to open door to small parties
Sonia Gandhi yesterday took an important step in giving the Congress' future strategy a direction by dropping negative references to the era of coalition politics, especially smaller parties, in the draft political resolution in a CWC meeting. The draft was cleared for today's AICC session scheduled to ratify Sonia's election as party president.
  Govt won't rush on Jain report
Union petroleum minister K Ramamurthy has stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government would take "its own time," like the United Front government, to place the Jain Commission's final report in Parliament. He added that the hurdles faced by the United Front government in tabling the report existed for the present government also.

DMK ouster tops Swamy's "patriotic agenda" for BJP
The dismissal of the DMK government is a national patriotic duty of the Atal Behari Vajpayee government and Jayalalitha's call for the dismissal a patriotic act, Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy said on Sunday. Swamy said that the dismissal was the demand of the Tamil people, adding that Vajpayee had not understood the gravity of the situation.

The pressure on the Urban Development Ministry began immediately after the new Council of Ministers was sworn in. With a majority of ministers needing accommodation, the pressure on government accommodation is immense.

BJP demands nullification of Nagaland polls
The Bharatiya Janata Party today demanded that the recent Assembly elections in Nagaland be declared "null and void" and polling be held afresh in the interest of parliamentary democracy. The BJP's demand was supported by Nagaland People's Council and National Democratic Movement of Nagaland.
