India pip resurgent Zimbabwe at the post
India claimed a second successive victory in the three-nation Pepsi series when they defeated Zimbabwe in their first league encounter at Vadodara yesterday. India, batting first, had made 274 for the loss of 5 wickets in their alloted 50 overs. Zimbabwe, in reply, were bowled out for 262 runs.
  England shot out for 149
Two Young West Indian pace bowlers took advantage of the absence of Curtly Ambrose to skittle out England for 149 in 48.5 overs in the fourth one-day international yesterday. England, 2-1 down in the five-match series, appeared to be shocked by the life Nixon McLean and Mervyn Dillon obtained from the pitch with the first four wickets fell for 33.

Gaudenzi snuffs out Indian hopes
India lost a crucial Davis Cup rubber to Italy on Sunday when Italian No. 1 Andrea Gaudenzi defeated India's Mahesh Bhupathi 6-1, 7-6 (3), 6-1 in the first reverse single. India were already trailing Italy 2-1. Later, Davide Sanguinetti wrapped up the dead fifth rubber beating Prahlad Srinath 6-2, 6-3 to make it 4-1 for the Italians.

Sri Lanka's batsmen were unable to break the stranglehold of South Africa's bowling and fielding in the second match of the Standard Bank triangular international limited overs series yesterday. South Africa, who had made 266 after batting first, dismissed the lankans for 209 with opening bowler Roger Telemachus taking four for 43 to claim the Man of the Match award.

Indian young brigade's grit was exemplary
India's young players displayed amazing skill and coolness under pressure to lead their team to a memorable win in Vadodara. In doing so, they spoilt what was shaping up as a good weekend for Zimbabwe who, boosted by their Davis Cup victory over Australia, had manoeuvred themselves into a position to win their first match in the triangular series.
Windies canter to five-wicket victory
Carl Hooper's even 50 and economical off-spin bowling helped guide the West Indies to a comfortable five-wicket victory over England in the third One-Day Cricket International on Saturday. Hooper followed up his one for 30 off 10 overs with a composed half century to see the West Indies past England modest 209 for eight.
