Self-respect and swadeshi go together: Joshi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
DANDI, April 6: Top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, both at the national and state level who descended upon Dandi in Navsari on Monday to mark the concluding ceremony of `Surajya Dandiyatra 98', used the occasion to drive home their undiluted resolve to implement the party's swadeshi philosophy.

The event, which saw the participation of several national leaders and officials, began on Monday morning with homage paid to Mahatma Gandhi by Union ministers including Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, Textiles Minister Kashiram Rana and Fertilizers and Chemicals Minister A K Patel.

Appreciating the re-enactment of the march, Murli Manohar Joshi said Gandhi's swadeshi philosophy was still relevant and the BJP was fully committed to implementing it during its tenure. ``Gandhian thought is universal and one cannot separate self-respect and swadeshi,'' Joshi said.

There is no country in the world today that does not practise swadeshi as advocated by Gandhi, Joshi added.
