Left Front wakes up to threat posed by Mamata

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CALCUTTA, April 6: Close on the heels of two important meetings -- the CPI(M) State Committee and the CPI State Council -- the crucial Left Front meeting held here today singled out the Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party combine as the `main enemy' to be fought in the coming panchayat elections.

The meeting, attended by the top state LF leaders, including the Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, had urged the Left parties to face the challenge thrown up by the combine unitedly.

Terming the combine as ``formidable,'' the LF meeting, presided over by its chairman Sailen Dasgupta, urged the constituents to mobilise all its strength to face the situation.

Basu urged the LF constituents to give up `friendly contests' among the Left partners and decide for a common candidate in the coming panchayat elections. The LF leaders had urged the constituents of the Front to prepare a final list of candidates by 15th April.
