CERC Bill in budget session

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
JAIPUR, April 10: The much-awaited Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) Bill will be introduced in the budget session of Parliament, Union power minister Rangarajan Kumarmangalam said today. The Bill will provide for setting up a regulatory commission for fixing tariff for consumers, generators and transmitters, he told a press conference here.

Though there was power deficit of 11 per cent in the peak supply and demand, it could be wiped out by improved electricity distribution network, he said.

Surplus power would be available if power was moved from one grid to another. But shortcomings in doing it due to network problems had led to power shortage, the Minister said. Earlier, Kumarmangalam held detailed discussions with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and state officials on problems being faced by Rajasthan.

The Union power secretary, the chairman cum managing directors of NTPC were among other who were present in the meeting.
