I bowed out on amma's directive, says Muthiah

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, April 10: Sedapatti R Muthiah, who submitted his resignation as Surface Transport Minister following a decision by the Special Court in Chennai to frame charges against him, declared that he had resigned from his ministerial post, only heeding to a directive by AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha. Addressing media persons at the party headquarters in the city on Thursday, soon after his arrival from New Delhi, Muthiah said, ``I have bowed to an order by amma.'' He said the Madras High Court had dismissed a petition filed by Advocate Paalai Shanmugam challenging his appointment as Central Minister and seeking his resignation in view of the charges against him and his family in the assets case.

``Even though the HC had held that I could continue as Minister, I have resigned heeding my leader,'' he added. It may be noted that the verdict on Paalai's petition was given much before Judge Sambandam of the Special Court framed charges against Muthiah and family on April 7.
