DMK volte-face on BJP angers Jaya

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, April 10: AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha on Friday flayed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for what she termed was his volte face with regard to the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) policies soon after it had assumed power at the Centre.

The Chief Minister who has now launched a propaganda supporting the BJP should withdraw all the adverse statements he had made against that party before elections, the AIADMK leader has demanded in a statement.

She charged that the DMK chief and TMC leader GK Moopanar, who had been responsible for getting the MG Ramachandran government dismissed in 1980, had no locus standi to talk about Article 356.

Referring to the Chief Minister's recent media statements, that the BJP will not invoke Article 356 (empowering the Centre to dismiss a state government), Jayalalitha said Karunanidhi's remarks only reflected a sudden change of heart.

Listing out all the statements which she said appeared in the DMK organ Murasoli and those made by the Chief Ministerduring public meetings on the Babri Masjid issue and against the BJP and its leaders, Jayalalitha alleged that Karunanidhi had incited innocent Muslim youths and sowed the seeds of violence culture in the State.

The CM, had by his statements against AB Vajpayee and LK Advani, fed hatred against them among the Muslim youths and this was the reason why Advani was targeted in Coimbatore.

If his flight had not been delayed on that fateful day, a great tragedy would have taken place in Tamil Nadu, she said.
