  Susanthika fails test again
Susanthika Jayasinghe, Asia's fastest woman and so far Sri Lanka's best medal hope at the next Olympics, was suspended provisionally from competition after she failed a second urine sample test. Jayasinghe's B sample, which was analysed by the International Amateur Athletics Federation laboratory in Sydney, confirmed the findings of the banned drug Nandrolene.
  Raymond knocks out Seles
Lisa Raymond posted her biggest victory of the year defeating third-seeded Monica Seles 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 in the third round of the Bausch and Lomb Championships. The 10th-seeded Raymond was urged on by a cheering crowd as she battled back from an 0-5 deficit in the first set saving set point several times before finally forcing the tie-breaker.

Becker dissolves in the Chennai heat
One of the most tragic sights in sport is the slaying of a champion by a decidedly lesser mortal, like it was when Boris Becker, desperately short on motivation, turned against an increasingly-confident Frenchman, Gerard Solves, at the Gold Flake Open pre-quarterfinals. Becker lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Leander solves Frenchman's posers
He was off to a slow start. But as the match progressed, there was a perceptible change in Leander Paes' game and attitude. His volleying was sharp and his service had more sting. And this time he did not falter and completed a 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 7-5 win over Gerard Solves of France to enter the semi-finals of the Gold Flake Open at the Nungambakkam Tennis stadium.

Australia desperate for victory
One tiring month and two weeks, and the Australians may have just begun to wither at the final stretch. But their ticket to the Pepsi tri-series final is yet to be confirmed. Even otherwise, they can't afford to lose to Zimbabwe. They are desperate for a win, acknowledges Steve Waugh.
Pro bug hits Indian boxing below the belt
"Shun the big, bad world of professional boxing," cautioned national coach GS Sandhu. He said that it had become "fashionable" for talented youngsters to quit amateur boxing for money and fame in an alien land, hurting not only themselves, but also betraying the country which spends so much money to train them.
