CRMD thrash CBI

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, April 13: Yogesh Muttiah starred in Central Railway Mumbai Division's (CRMD) 4-0 rout of Central Bank of India (CBI) in the BHA Senior Division hockey league at the Mahindra Stadium, today.

Muttiah scored a goal and was the hub of a sparkling display of the the forward line that had the rival defence on tenterhooks right through the encounter. Edwin Moti and Aldrin Bird added the other goals after Muttiah's strike put the railwaymen 1-0 ahead at half-time.

Muttiah struck in the 10th minute but CRMD opened the floodgates deep into the second half after Central Bank's Rommel Pereira earned a red card shown by umpire Satinder Walia for abusive language.

Muttiah scored at the second time of asking after goalkeeper Douglas Rodrigues padded away following a cross from Javed Sayyal from the right.Douglas kept the Railway side at bay with some good work under the bar although Aldrin Bird went close on two occasions.

Central Bank went agonisingly close in a rare attack when Rommel Pereira deflectedinches wide from close range.

The bank's resistance collapsed after Rommel's departure and CRMD blasted in three in a seven-minute blitz.

Edwin Moti flicked home to make it 2-0 and added another with a scoop after accepting a square pass from Muttiah to put CRMD three-up.

Aldrin Bird then completed the rout in the 63rd minute deflecting home a through pass by Rakesh Podith.

The win strengthens CRMD's position at the top of the table with 16 points from six matches. CRMD have a match in hand against lowly Khalsa Gymkhana and promotion to the Super League looks very likely.

Central have played four matches with six points from two wins. With three matches left, their aspirations to gain promotion looks to be a shade in doubt with Young Sports on 13 points from five matches looking good for second spot.
