MUMBAI, APR 16: The Maharashtra government will set up an Electricity Regulatory Commission in two months. This was announced here on Thursday by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) chairman, Asoke Basak."We are working on a Bill and will have it as fast as we can," Basak said at a seminar on infrastructure financing organised by the BCCI.The regulatory commission will not only help and accelerate power sector reforms, but also bring greater professionalism and do away with red-tapism to a large extent, he said. This will provide greater comfort to foreign investors, Basak added.
The need for regulatory commissions for the centre and the states is a long felt one. The United Front (UF) had mooted it in the combine's common minimum programme two years ago. Details on the bodies' roles and powers will be announced later.
`The country has identified hurdles in the power sector while implementing reforms, experts said.
