Urea scam accused to be extradited

LONDON: A local court here today ordered the extradition of Brazlian A E Pinto, the main accused in the Rs 133 crore urea scam, paving the way for his departure to India within a fortnight to face trial. Pinto was the main mediator in the deal between the Turkish firm Karsan and the public sector National Fertiliser Limited. The two Turkish nationals Tuncay Alancus and Cihan Caranci, top executives of the Karsan company have already been extradited to India by Swiss authorities.

Summons to Kesri

NEW DELHI: A city court today found prima facie evidence against former Congress president Sitaram Kesri in a defamation case filed by the RSS and summoned him to appear before it on May four.

Palakkad inferno

PALAKKAD: Seven persons were charred to death and 17 others suffered serious burns in a fire in a private cartridge case manufacturing unit at Mayampallom in Kerala's Palakkad district today. The dead included three men andtwo women, all of them workers. The fire was caused from a spark during manufacturing.

Gogoi case

CALCUTTA: ULFA vice-chairman Pradeep Gogoi, who was arrested here on April 9, will be taken to Guwahati tomorrow. Chief metropolitan magistrate D Pal, today granted a prayer by the Assam police to this effect. All the five criminal cases with which Gogoi had been charged, pertained to Assam.
