  Leander paces into semis
Top-seed Leander Paes demolished Italian Mose Navarra 6-4, 6-4 to inch one step closer to the summit, in the IPCL Cup Challenger, yesterday. Even on a perfect setting at the IPCL Complex, the 312th ranked long-haired Italian stood little or no chance against Paes who has been putting together some good tennis for the last couple of days.
  Kiwis rally to hold India
India, hoping to finish second and qualify for the final, received a setback when they were held to a 2-2 draw by New Zealand in their penultimate match of the second leg in the Colorado Cup hockey tournament in Melbourne yesterday. After a morale boosting 2-1 victory over Argentina, India faltered in the crucial game allowing the Kiwis to equalise and earn their first point in the tournament.

India determined for success
Stung by an unexpected reverse at home against the struggling Australians, India go into the Sharjah Coca-Cola Cup tri-series determined to wipe out a nightmare they lived on their last trip to this cricket outpost in the desert. Both India and Australia will have to do some quick adjustments shifting from day matches to playing under lights and with white balls against the Kiwis.
Kerala fail to breach Rlys
Kerala suffered a blow on the first day of the 53rd Santosh Trophy quarter-final league when they were held to a 0-0 draw by unfancied Railways at the Nehru Stadium yesterday. In a scrappy encounter on a pleasant afternoon, both teams never really got going. Mis-passes, bad trapping and poor finishing robbed the 100 odd spectators of any memorable action.

Amazing sub-par scores at China Open
It was one of the most stunning opening rounds in the history of Asian PGA Golf tour. As many as 76 players had sub-par cards and another 21 players had par scores in the first round of the China Volvo Open at the Sunisland Golf Club just outside Shanghai.
Narain braces for winning formula
