Fleming, Warne put the brakes on Kiwis
Opener Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting struck enterprising half-centuries as Australia, fresh from their tri-series triumph in India, scored a convincing six wicket victory over a listless New Zealand to open their Coca Cola Sharjah Cup cricket tournament campaign. Earlier, skipper Stephen Fleming top-scored with 59 for his second consecutive half-century but a spineless approach from his fellow batsmen saw the Kiwi innings capitulate for 159 in 48.4 overs.

Tramacchi tramples Dupuis for title
Anthony Dupuis came into the final with a win over top seed Leander Paes, but yesterday he played a brand of tennis quite indistinguishable from the match against the Indian. The second seed Peter Tramacchi (Australia) didn't give him much of a chance to get into groove, as the Australian won the $ 50,000 IPCL Cup Challenger 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 to add 70 points and $ 7,200 to his kitty.

Amritinder lone Indian in fray to shoot sub par
On a day of mixed fortunes, Amritinder Singh was the only Indian among the five in fray to card a sub par third round while a daring birdie on the last gave American Aaron Meeks the lead on the penultimate day of the $ 400,000 Volvo China Open golf at Shanghai. No Indian could improve his position on the leaderboard and slipped further down their standing.
