  Samata wants Central package for Bihar
The Samata Party, yesterday asked the Centre to announce "a special package" for Bihar to make up for revenue losses in the event of creation of a separate state comprising 18 districts of south Bihar.
  Kidwai was seen to be shielding Laloo in scam
Bihar Governor A R Kidwai, who was shifted to West Bengal on Saturday in what is being seen as a prelude to any action against the Rabri Devi Government, was known for his soft attitude towards Laloo Prasad Yadav and had been embroiled in many controversies -- from selling the titar bird to spending money on the Raj Bhavan, even beyond the budgetary allocations.

Another Central team to TN soon
The Union Home Ministry is actively considering sending another team of Central observers to Tamil Nadu to gauge the `real' law and order situation in the State. Home Minister L K Advani on Saturday made it amply clear -- not once but twice -- that Special Secretary Ashok Kumar who returned from Chennai on Friday had made a hash of his assignment.
RSS chief comes down on Cong, hails BJP's raise
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief (Sar Sanghchalak) Rajju Bhaiyya came down heavily on the Congress party's successive rule and described March 15, the day on which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, as a watershed in India's history.

Streamlining figures high on JD's to-do list
The Janata Dal yesterday resolved to tone up the party and prepare for a nationwide agitation against the "anti-people" policies of the BJP-led government. "The Janata Dal must, in the coming months, accord high priority to streamlining its organisation as an effective instrument to work and fight for people's problems," a resolution adopted at the party's national executive meeting said.
Thackeray case adjourned to June
The defamation case filed by Chhagan Bhujbal, leader of Opposition in the State Legislature Council, against Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and two others has been adjourned to June 16.
