MUMBAI: The Indian team for the May 14-31 triangular series day-night cricket tournament, to be held at seven centres, would be chosen here on May nine by the national cricket selectors.

Making this announcement today, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jaywant Lele, told PTI that the selectors have been advised by board President Raj Singh Dungarpur to pick a mixed team for the series featuring Bangladesh and Kenya as the other two teams.

"The board president has told the selectors to retain five or six of the team members currently in Sharjah and choose the others from outside the 14 as the tournament has been fixed for them to experiment with the team keeping in mind next year's World Cup," Lele said.

Hockey telecast

NEW DELHI: Sports broadcaster ESPN will telecast live the men's and women's hockey World Cup matches from Utrecht, Netherlands, scheduled for next month, a release said here today.

Defending champions Pakistan arelodged in Group B along with Australia, England, Malaysia, Poland and Spain while India faces tough challenge in Group A with Germany, Olympic champions Holland, Canada, South Korea and New Zealand.

Pepsi Triangular

NEW DELHI: ESPN will telecast live the Pepsi Triangular cricket series involving India, Kenya and Bangladesh to be played at seven centres spread across the country.

The day-night One-day International series will commence from May 14 at Mohali with India playing Bangladesh.

The telecast will start from 1600 hrs while the second session will start at 2030 hrs, an ESPN release said today.

BCCI stay firm

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in no mood to forgive former Test all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar and will continue the Rs 5 crore defamation suit filed against him and others here. Prabhakar had made damaging allegations of match fixing and betting in the Indian team in a Delhi-based weekly and also refused to substantiate it or apologise.

Fewdays ago, some Delhi cricketers had appealed to BCCI to drop the case in view of Prabhakar's outstanding contribution to the game. But today BCCI secretary JY Lele said instead of appealing to BCCI, the cricketers should ask Prabhakar why he made those allegations in the first place.

Bail rejected

CALCUTTA: A city court today rejected the bail prayer of four persons who were arrested for their alleged involvement in betting during Tuesday's Australia-New Zealand encounter in Coca Cola Cup cricket tournament in Sharjah.

The chief metropolitan magistrate, Calcutta, Debdas Paul, remanded them to further police custody.
