CHANDIGARH, April 24: The Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College has served notices to all teachers who have been appointed after July, 1989 asking them to seek approval from the Panjab University.A decision to serve notices was passed at the meeting of the society recently. Twelve teachers of the college have been served notices, and they have been asked to seek approval from PU within a month. The notice further says that unless the members get approval, "the management may be unable to allow them to continue on their present positions".
This notice has the college teachers' association up in arms who have represented to the Panjab University stating that they have been serving in the college since the past seven years. They say that the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) which is the apex body concerning framing of rules for the college has stated that old teachers who do not possess post graduate qualifications should be allowed to continue in service. They have quoted a letter from CCIM and said that they should be given appropriate time so that they can acquire post graduate degree.
Meanwhile PU is contemplating action against the Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College and the necessary steps are expected to be discussed in the meeting of the Panjab University syndicate.
