Placement agency chief booked

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, April 24: The city police have registered a criminal case against MP Singh, chief consultant, Job's Hut Placement and Security Centre, Sector 22, here for allegedly defrauding a retired Wing Commander residing in the city, of Rs 1.5 lakh, on the pretext of getting him a job with the Tata Group of Companies.

The "employment fraud'' was first reported in the Newsline, in February this year, when Wg Cdr MP Sharma (retd) complained the matter to the police. Sharma, who had submitted his bio-data with the agency was reportedly approached by MP Singh, saying that he would be interviewed by "a multi-national company of the Tata Group.''

Sharma in his complaint added that he was interviewed by some persons posing as officials of the Tata Group of Industries and finally offered the post of Director (North) and asked to "keep the assignment confidential due to political pressure.'' He was reportedly offered a monthly package of nearly Rs 1.7 lakh, a furnished car and house.

He added that he was asked to pay Rs 1 lakh as security and Rs 50,000 more for a trip to Japan. Sharma added that after he had paid the money, and by February 3, he knew he had been ``duped.''

The Economic Offences Wing of the City police had conducted investigations into the matter, sources said. The enquiry conducted into the complaint has held the charges levelled by Sharma as true. The enquiry which also took into account similar complaints filed by others against MP Singh, held that Singh had reportedly cheated people of Rs 7.16 lakh, and confessed to doing so, police sources said.

The police have registered a case against him under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC.
