Fireman dies of heart attack

NEW DELHI, April 24: A Delhi Fire Service fireman died of a heart attack while assisting fire-fighters battling a blaze which had engulfed 150 jhuggis in Okhla today. The fire started around 2 a.m. in the Sanjay colony jhuggi cluster. It had broken out in a pile of cotton rugs which had been left in the open. Sri Niwas, 56, was one of the drivers of the fire tenders. At 6.30 p.m., when the fire was under control, Sri Niwas, who had been passing a hose pipe to one of the firemen, suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to AIIMS where he was declared dead on arrival. Fire officials say that he was due to retire in the next six months.

Around 150 jhuggis were gutted in the fire.
