  All coalition partners must speak as one, says Venkaiah
The Bharatiya Janata Party's allies must sort out contentious issues among themselves instead of airing their grievances in public, BJP national general secretary Venkaiah Naidu said yesterday.
  Advani defends identity card scheme
Home Minister L K Advani ysterday rejected criticism that his proposal for a identity card for every Indian citizen was meant merely to detect illegal immigrants. He said the citizens' identity cards will also help in the census operation. The cards are expected to carry details like name, date of birth and residence of the holder.

Truce in trouble: NSCN makes it difficult for Government
Even as the Centre toys with the idea of extending the ceasefire with Naga insurgent groups for a further period of three to six months, the outlawed National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) faction headed by Isak Chisi Swu and Thuiengleng Muivah has expressed serious doubts over the sincerity of the government's resolve to find a solution to the vexed issue.
All-party team set up to solve border dispute
A 25-member all-party delegation will call on Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on May 1, 1998, in Mumbai, in an attempt to find an amicable solution to the age-old Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute.

Jaya seeks revision of order in Tansi trial
Former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha has moved the Madras High Court to set aside an order of P Anbazhagan, Special Court-III judge, dismissing her discharge petition in the Tansi land and office building transaction case.
