Nashik, April 25: Congress' Nashik city unit general secretary Bhagan Bhoge has tendered his resignation in protest against the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ranjit Deshmukh, joint secretary Jaiprakash Chhajed and city unit president Murlidhar Mane. The squabble within the city unit came to the forefront when Bhoge accused all the three of dictatorial style of ruling. The resignation comes ahead of MPCC's convention to be addressed by Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi on May 6 in Nashik.
The trouble started when Bhoge complained against Mane and Chhajed to Deshmukh, last March. But, Mane ignored the complaint and reprimanded him for complaining. Later, the duo in connivance with Deshmukh issued him a showcause notice charging him with anti-party activities.
The showcause notice issued by MPCC general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni on April 16, was served to Bhoge on April 22. It charged him with working against the party candidate (now MP) Madhavrao Patil during the recent Lok Sabhapolls.
Clarifying, Bhoge stated, he had campaigned for Patil and the latter had even testified to his claim. He pointed out that the whole thing has demoralised him, forcing him to resign. He further said, that even before the notice was served, his adversaries approached the press on the issue to malign his image. He said, the notice stripped him of his general secretary post, in total violation of the party's constitution, which stipulates a notice and due inquiry.
