Testing times & no question paper in print

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, April 25: The South Gujarat University (SGU) administration faced tense and embarassing moments when it realised an hour before the scheduled start of the examination that the question paper of second year Bachelor of Science (Physics-Electronics) examination was not yet printed.

When the officials did manage to send a faxed manuscript to the two Bharuch colleges after an intense effort it delayed the exam by over half an hour.Incidentally, the BSc (Physics) course is offered by only two colleges in the area, Jayendra Puri Science Collge of Bharuch and Narmada College of Science in Zadeshwar.

It was when one of the two college principals called up Vice-Chancellor Ashwin Kapadia to inform him that both colleges had not received the question papers that the examination section revealed that the said question papers were not yet available in print.

Subsequently, even faxing those manuscripts from the SGU office was not an easy task. Kapadia himself had to go to the Sardar Vallabhbhai RegionalEngineering College to ensure that there was no leakage.

The universities woes did not end there. The fax received at the GNFC was illegible. From there Kapadia had to go to the other section of the same college to fax the question paper. The college authorities at the other end had to get the paper xeroxed. Luckily, the course is subscribed to by only 50 students.

By the time the students received the manuscript it was nearly 3.30 pm, though the college authorities compensated the loss of time by extending the period up to 6.30 pm.

When contacted Kapadia said the faux pas was caused because Icecreamwala, a clerk in the examination section had forgotten to send the manuscript in print due to an oversight.
