Islamabad, April 25: Nearly a dozen American commandos have been stationed in Pakistan's Peshawar city for working out plans to nab a prominent Saudi dissident, according to a newspaper report here today.Dissident Osama Bin Laden has been hiding in Afghanistan amidst heavy security, The Frontier Post has claimed.
The commandos, staying in American club in Peshawar, are reportedly involved in ``mysterious activities'' in the adjoning areas bordering Afghanistan and are also interrogating concerned people in this connection, the paper said.
The paper also gave the names of the 12-member team who are in regular touch with the US consulate in Peshawar. They are reported to have interrogated a Yemeni national who was arrested a few days ago from the Pak-Afghan border and had met Laden earlier in a village near Jalalabad and was arrested a few days ago from the Pak-Afghan border.
Bin Laden, a Saudi billionaire, is the most sought after person by the United States for his alleged involvement in a bombingincident in Saudi Arabia in which several American soldiers have been killed and for declaring a jehad against US.
The post further said the US team, which also has a female member and an Arab national who works for the CIA, was in contact with the Pakistani authorities and some tribal leaders.
The paper also claimed that the US team was told by the Yemini national during interrogations that Bin Laden was living with unprecedented security arrangements and is being guarded by some 300-well trained Arab nationals. The Pakistani media had earlier also reported the presence of the US commandos in the country and the matter was even raised in the national assembly but the government had denied such reports. Even the foreign office had categorically rejected such reports during his regular weekly briefing some time back.
