AP Congmen stage walkout amid din

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Hyderabad, April 25: The proceedings of the AP Legislative Assembly were disrupted for over an hour today, with the Congress members staging a walkout from the House protesting against panel Speaker P Chadrasekhar's ``callous'' altitude.

Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy announced that his party members would not sit in the House as long as Chandrasekhar was in the Chair. Before that, the House witnessed noisy arguments and slogan-shouting by Congress members for 30 minutes.

The House was adjourned for 45 minutes and a meeting with all floor leaders was held in the Speaker's chamber to resolve the crisis arising out of Congress members' stand. Leaders of the Left parties played a role in settling the dispute between the ruling Telugu Desam and the Congress.

Congress members were sore with the Chair not permitting them to seek clarifications after Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made a statement, intervening during the question hour, on the desirability of administrative reforms.

He claimed that hisgovernment was committed to simplifying the procedures and decentralisation of powers so as to tone up the quality of administration. He criticised the predecessor regimes for neglecting people's problems and complicating matters on the administrative front.

However, contesting his claims, the Congress members wanted to seek clarifications on Naidu's reply. They alleged that despite the reforms and computerisation, there was rampant corruption and inefficiency in the administration.

But, Chandrasekhar did not allow them on the ground that they cannot get clarifications during the question hour. Protesting the ruling, several Congress members rushed into the well and surrounded the Chair. Angry exchanges took place between the Chair and the members.

Though Janardhan Reddy wanted to criticise the CM for misleading the House, the panel Speaker did not give him a chance. Meanwhile, Naidu left the House. A Congress leader then trained his guns on the Chair and termed his behavior callous, partial and unfairbefore staging a walk out.

While leaving the House, the Congress members shouted solgans against the CM and panel Speaker. There were some counter-slogans from the ruling party benches against the Congress.
