  Ruling on Ayodhya charge-sheet soon
The Allahabad High Court is expected to rule shortly on whether charges can be framed against the accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case. Those who have been named as accused include Union Home Minister L K Advani, Human Resources Minister Murli Manohar Joshi and Minister of State for Youth and Sports Uma Bharati.
  Hegde meets Atal
Lok Shakti leader and Union Commerce Minister Ramakrishna Hegde yesterday met the Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to explain his position following allegations of corruption levelled against him by AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha. Hegde, who has denied all the charges made against him, is understood to have impressed upon Vajpayee that the charges were not true.

BJP may usher in Presidential govenment
Strongly denying that the BJP Government intends to scrap the Ambedkar Constitution, Union Home Minister L K Advani yesterday said the proposed commission to review the Constitution will explore the possibilities of changing over to the presidential form of government. Advani added that this would have no impact on the basic structure of the Constitution.
MP Cong yet to grapple with defeat in Lok Sabha elections
Though more than seven weeks have passed after the announcement of the results of the last Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Congress in Madhya Pradesh has not yet come to terms with its defeat in the polls. The party is in the midst of a crisis following demands from some members that the state Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh, should be replaced to ensure that the party would fare better in the next Assembly elections.

BJP central observer to defuse Trinamool crisis
In a major bid to revive the Trinamool Congress-BJP alliance, strained due to divergent views on Panchayat seat adjustment, a BJP Central observer will arrive in Calcutta today to sort out differences between the two parties. The BJP unit in the city, however, pleaded ignorance about the visit.
BJP meet to assess politics of coalition
Alliance politics will be one of the subjects to be discussed during the three-day meeting of the forthcoming Bharatiya Janata Party's national executive and national council, to be held in Gandhinagar from May 2 to May 4. BJP's alliance partners in the government at the Centre have, however, not been invited for the meeting.
