76-year-old woman killed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, May 2: A 76-year-old woman was found murdered in her apartment on 15th Road, Khar last evening. Sushila Gokhlani's body was discovered by her husband, Dr Gopal Gokhlani, around 10 pm, when he returned home from his dispensary nearby.

Police are on the lookout for the Gokhlanis' domestic servant who went missing after the murder. Investigations revealed that a gold chain, a mangalsutra and Rs 15,000 in cash were missing from the house after the incident, leading police to suspect that the servant, Shiv Kumar Bihari, murdered the elderly woman and escaped with the booty to his native place.

According to police reports, the incident took place between 6 pm and 9 pm on Friday when Sushila was alone in the apartment in Satya building. Her husband had left for the dispensary in the neighbourhood around 5.30 in evening, returning only at 10 pm. When nobody answered the door, Gokhlani mounted a table and opened the door by lifting the ventilator. He found Sushila lying dead, her limbs tied with a rope. She appeared to have been strangulated to death, police said.

According to police reports, Gokhlani had hired Bihari after the former servant proceeded on leave a few months ago.
