KOCHI: Six youths were drowned in River Periyar at Aluwa near here when a country craft carrying about 22 persons capsized midstream on Saturday morning. The mishap occurred when the group, which came in a tourist bus from Konni in Pathanamthitta district tried to cross the river in the hired country craft for getting to a bathing ghat on the other side, police said. In a similar incidence in Orissa, four persons were drowned and six others reported missing when an overcrowded country-boat capsized in Chitrotpala river near Kendupatna.

Shooting spree

FLORIDA: Three teenage boys in ski masks went on a one-hour shooting rampage, killing a woman in a car and wounding seven other people, including five relatives who were gunned down during a family reunion, authorities said on Friday. The suspects, high school students aged between 16 and 17, were arrested and charged in the shootings late Thursday night and in a separate slaying on Sunday.

GUWAHATI: Amoderate earthquake rocked different parts of the North-East on Saturday afternoon. The tremor first hit Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur around 2.10 pm and then Assam around 2.18 pm.
