US alive to Indian concerns
The United States has expressed recognition and understanding about New Delhi's concern over Pakistan's missile and nuclear proliferation, including the help it is receiving from American and Chinese firms, Indian officials said after a new round of strategic dialogue with their US counterparts.

Dispur to remain Assam capital
The Prafulla Kumar Mahanta Government has finally decided to make Dispur the State's permanent Capital. This will put an end to the controversy and uncertainty which had begun way back in 1972, following the carving out of Meghalaya, which took with it the original capital Shillong.

MoF bid to ease tax norms
To cope with the projected 25 per cent annual growth of tax payers during the next three years, the Union Finance Ministry has chalked out a detailed plan of action to further simplify the collection procedures and simultaneously discourage the tax evaders to a great extent, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairman Ravi Kant said.

BJP meet lacking the fizz
Last fortnight's battering at the hands of its allies took the fizz out of the BJP's National Executive meet which began here on a subdued note yesterday. There was no euphoria, just anxiety, in the deliberations, setting a distinctly sombre tone for tomorrow's plenary session of the National Council at which outgoing party president L K Advani will hand over charge to his successor, Kushabhau Thakre.
