Stalemate at Lasalgaon ends

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NASHIK, May 4: The standoff between traders and farmers at the Lasalgaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) ended today, with the traders assuring that they would not resort to flash strikes to press their demands.

The assurance was given at a joint meeting attended by government officials, and representatives of traders and farmers. It was convened by Lasalgaon APMC chairperson Kalyanrao Patil.

An APMC spokesperson said that after the settlement, auctions at the onion market yard had commenced and 22 tractor trailor-loads (each containing 30 quintals) had been auctioned at an average price of Rs 321 per quintal. Since the Lasalgaon market is shut on Saturdays and Sundays, a sub-market which will remain open on weekends was opened at nearby Vinchur.
