True is thy love,
So unconditional and soothing as the heavens aboveThat is why, perhaps our bond (mother-daughter) has grown stronger over the years. At times, I do not know how to describe our relationship - because umpteen times you have been more than just a mother to me - perhaps a sister, friend, guide or a well-wisher.
A child enters the speech world with the words `Mamma' on lips and it is rightly so for it is the mother who guides the child. You taught me the values of life, way to express my fears and anxieties, share my joys and sorrows and gave me your finger to hold for stepping on to every next stone.
Friends have come and gone - some true and faithful - but you have always been my best friend in whom I can confide and trust. You are always so perspicuous in your ideas and thoughts, that for every problem I face, you have a solution. Growing up in your arms has really been memorable and the values you have imbibed in me have put on their life long trademarks.
Fighting the battles of childhood and adolescence, you are proud to call your daughter a lady now. But, I know, all the same, you have an untold fear in your mind, that your baby has grown up now and will be soon moving away from you (only physically) to make a distinguished name and career for herself. You would have loved to hold me back and protect me - like you always did when I used to cuddle beside you - scared of the thunderstorms.
But being selfish is not in your blood and so, I know, you will push behind those tears and put up a brave front, encouraging me to go ahead and fulfil every dream that Dad and you have seen for me.
Ma, it will be only the visual distance that will keep us away, because we will still be close to each other from within our hearts. The lessons you have taught me will stand me in good stride to face the world. And every time, I feel the next stone I should step to is shaky, I can always fall back to you for advice. You will always remain close to me.
Ma, thank you for the love, care and guidance.
It truly has the power and radiance,
In the form of blessing, well said,
Which will inspire me to march ahead,
And face the world - brave and bold,
To prove myself - and as a proud mother you will be known.
