31,000 liquor bottles seized from Mehrauli farmhouse
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 19: Around 31,000 bottles of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were recovered from a Mehrauli farmhouse yesterday. Three persons have been arrested in this connection. The police said they had received information that a farmhouse in Sultanpur, Mehrauli, was being used as a store for liquor smuggled from Haryana. The chowkidar had reportedly rented out farmhouse space to liquor-smugglers without the knowledge of his employer. The consignment used to be stored in a pit which was camouflaged with grass. The chowkidar was allegedly charging from them Rs 8,000 per month.Yesterday, around mid-morning, the police began tailing a truck moving in the area. The truck entered the premises of a farmhouse and the truck driver, a courier and chowkidar -- later identified as Ramji Lal, Irshad and Raja Ram respectively -- began unloading the truck. The police moved in and arrested the three of them. A search of the truck revealed 625 cartons of Boxer IMFL containing over 30,000 250 ml bottles. A search of the farmhouse led to the recovery of 780 750 ml bottles of IMFL. The truck has also been seized. Under interrogation, the accused told the police that the actual owners of the contraband and smugglers of liquor are Mohan, Sushil and Ishwar of Ghitorni village. Efforts are afoot to arrest Mohan, Ishwar and Sushil. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
