WB to provide more funds for health project

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, May 27: Notwithstanding the economic sanctions imposed on India by the Clinton administration, the World Bank has decided to provide more funds to the Shiv Sena-BJP Government's rural health project. Disclosing this at a high-level meeting at Mantralaya, World Bank nominee Taheer Namaz informed Health Minister Daulatrao Aher that the sanctions imposed by some of the countries would not have any adverse impact on the rural health project.

"In fact, the World Bank has enhanced the amount from Rs 522 crore to Rs 650 crore and the first installment will be released to the State Government in January 1999 as decided earlier. The State Government will receive Rs 130 crore per year for five years," Taheer Nawaz said. The health project envisages improved rural health care facilities.
