No delay in SSC, HSC results

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
May 27: Minister of state for education, Anil Deshmukh, today announced that the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) will not be delayed and will be declared in June.

``Tentatively, the HSC results will be out in the first week and the SSC results in the third week of June. There will be no delay and confusion,'' Deshmukh stated at a press conference in Mantralaya. Admissions to First Year Junior College as well as the MBBS entrance examination can be conducted only after these results are declared, and this announcement has removed prevalent ambiguity.

Commenting on the implementation of the Pre-Primary Act, Deshmukh said the entire Act, save one section, was in force. ``Section 5 of the Act, which provides for preparing zones and forcing schools to admit 80 per cent students from their respective zones, is being withheld. Other provisions of the Act, like registering the pre primary centre with the government and a strict ban on interviews of parentswill be implemented,'' Deshmukh said.

He further informed that the state government has made available three text books each for class three and four based on the new syllabus. The books, in Marathi, Hindi, English, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Sindhi and Telugu, are available in the market. Priced at half the rates of those available in the market, the books' paper and printing quality is good, Deshmukh claimed.Responding to questions about schools forcing students to use workbooks and guides being published by private publishers, the minister said the government would initiate stringent action against the school if any such incident was brought to the authorities' notice. ``The government has banned the use of such books, and schools cannot force students to use them,'' Deshmukh said.

He also said seven new military schools will be started at Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri and Thane, and one exclusively for women at Pune. A naval school will start functioning from June at Alibag. ``TheMaharashtra Caded Corps has gained a good response from students. A total of 14 lakh students have enrolled and will trained by 12,000 instructors, including officers of the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel,'' the minister said.
