The second of the Siamese twins dies too
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
May 27: The second of the conjoined (Siamese) twins, born on May 22, died at the P D Hinduja Hospital this afternoon. The cause of death was stated as renal failure. On Wednesday afternoon, the first of the Siamese twins died due to the same cause.``Kidney failure, low birth weight besides major surgical intervention at an early stage contributed to the child's condition,'' said Dr Vinay Joshi, Pediatric ICU registrar at Hinduja hospital. Sharada Ahire had given birth to triplets (one girl and two boys) at Dr Vijay Karkhanis' Snehal surgical and maternity home at Thane on May 22. Though the girl is normal, the boys were born attached to each other from the throat to the navel. The delivery was conducted by Dr Rajeshree Karkhanis and her team at 11.45 am. A team from Snehal maternity home escorted the babies to Wadia Childrens' hospital the same afternoon. Following tests at Wadia, the babies were separated in a 10-hour long operation. The babies' mother Sharada and her daughter are at Dr Karkhanis' nursinghome in Thane. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
