N. Rly squeeze past ESIC into final
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 27: Two minutes into the match and ESIC goalkeeper Anil, writhing in pain after a clash with Northern Railway striker Vimal Thapa, was taken off the field and straight to the hospital with a dislocated knee. And then, the rest of the first semi-final in the Oriental Bank sponsored DSA Institutional league became increasingly noisy and rough at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday.Despite all that, and a relentlessly attacking N.Railway forward line, the match remained goalless even after extra time and N.Railway just about managed to make it to the title round when ESIC's Vijay Gurung missed a spot kick in the tie break to gift the rivals a 6-5 win. In a tie-break, played almost impeccably by both sides, Harish Bisht opened the account for N. Railway while Satish Kumar, Yashpal Rawat, Sanjay Sidhu, Shyam Kumar and Vimal Thapa were the other scorers for the winners. Only Vijay Gurung, at the very end, missed for ESIC. Surender Bisht, Thao Apao, Shyam Thapa, Hukum Bahadur Thapa and Jaman Singh scored for the side that missed out on a final date, but only just.
