Pilot flays divergent statements of BJP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SUNDERNAGAR, MAY 27: Senior Congress leader Rajesh Pilot came down heavily on Vajpayee government for divergent views of ministers on national security. Addressing an election meeting last night, Pilot was highly critical of the statements made by Home Minister L.K. Advani, Human Resources Minister Murli Manohar Joshi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana, who according to him, had put stigma on 50-year-old foreign policy of the nation.

However, he advocated Indian nuclear programme and complimented the engineers and scientists, who brought India into the nuclear club but warned the BJP to not to try to gain political mileage from it.

Pilot repeatedly attacked former communication minister Sukh Ram and demanded the disclosure of source of Rs four crore, confiscated from his Delhi and Mandi residence. He ridiculed the demand of Sukh Ram for a CBI probe into his assets and said if any discrepancy would be found in the income tax returns, he would surrender the entire property to Sukh Ram.

Pilot said his political life was transparent as compared to that of Sukh Ram. He also criticised Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and BJP high command for shielding Sukh Ram for political gains. He said the BJP leaders opposed him in the parliament but were sharing power with his party in the state. PIlot said at the Centre the Vajpayee government was being run through remote control by Jayalalitha and Chanderbabu Naidu by adopting pressure tactics.

Pilot was critical of the ``irresponsible''statements made by the Defence Minister against the neighbouring countries but however, warned Pakistan to keep off aggressive attitude. Pilot urged the voters to vote in favour of Congress candidate, Pratibha Singh, for strengthening the secular forces.
