PATIALA, MAY 27: The members of the Kisan wing of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) have decided to approach the High Court for handing of the investigations in the alleged super fertilizer scandal by the CBI.The members in a meeting held here today rued that the police investigations in the matter are being carried on at a snail's pace. Another handicap, according to them, is the involvement of officials from other states in the alleged scandals.
President of the wing Satnam Singh Behru has alleged that in spite of the top government functionaries knowing that a large number of government officials, including those of the ranks of former director, Agriculture, are allegedly involved, none of the officials has been suspended. He said that instead, one of the accused has been promoted.
Behru stated that there has been misappropriation of funds in which the accused allegedly misappropriated the subsidy provided by the government at a rate of Rs. 340 per tonne of super phosphate. The alleged modus operandi used was to use fake signatures of farmers. Behru said that an inquiry into the alleged scandal was initiated by the vigilance department in 1995 which found misappropriation to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh in Patiala. Behru said that when the matter is thoroughly probed, the alleged scandal is bound to be greater in magnitude as compared to the fodder scam in Bihar.
