Husband, girl-friend held for murder

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AMRITSAR, May 27: Amritsar police today successfully solved the murder of Anju Sikka and have arrested her husband Ranjay Sikka and his girl friend Harinder Kaur.

Paramjit Singh Gill, senior superintendent of police giving details here said Sandeep Sikka - brother of Ranjay Sikka - registered a FIR at police station Civil Lines on May 13 that Anju Sikka was found murdered in her own Maruti car, parked in Khanna street close to their residence.

He said initially the incident was disguised as robbery with a motive to rob cash and ornaments from Anju Sikka. After the police investigated the case, despite lot of pressure from different quarters to not to harass Ranjay Sikka, the truth started to reveal.

Gill said the preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed Ranjay Sikka was involved with Harinder Kaur since 1993 and was spending lavishly on her. When Anju Sikka, his wife, came to know of her husband's illicit relation, their relations strained. Ranjay continued seeing Harinder and decided to get rid of his wife, Gill said.

Gill added on May 12 Ranjay met Harinder at about 8.15 p.m. and dropped her at Majitha. As per the plan, he insisted on Anju Sikka to drop him at the railway station at 9 p.m. because Ranjay had already reserved a seat for himself in Frontier Mail Train, to prove his alibi. He stabbed Anju to death in his own car and took his brief case and went to railway station in a rickshaw and left for Delhi, Gill said. In the meantime, Harinder Kaur also slipped from her village. Both Ranjay and Harinder Kaur met in Delhi on May 20 and were planning to go abroad , he said.

Gill said, the police informed airport authorities in Delhi to prevent them from escaping abroad. He said search parties were sent to different places and both of them were arrested from Chandigarh bus stand on May 26.
