Hospital ward boy shot dead
A ward boy of Wadia hospital for Children at Parel was shot dead by three unidentified men in the hospital premises on Saturday night.

Ashok Pardesi was shot by three men who jumped over the wall of the hospital at around 7.30 pm. The trio then escaped in a waiting taxi. Pardesi, who was hit on the chest twice, was immediately taken to KEM hospital, where he died at around 9.15 pm. A case of murder has been registered at Bhoiwada police station.

Shop looted at Kalyan
Four unidentified armed men looted Rs 1.80 lakh from a shop `A to Z Enterprises' near Bhan Sagar theatre at Kalyan on Friday afternoon .Said the police, the men barged into the establishment when the owner Kirtida Karkhanis, her assistant Raji Deshmukh and her father in-law Gajanan N Karkhanis were in the shop. They brandished a knife and a revolver, cut off the phone line and demanded that the cash collection be handed over to them. A scared Kirtida handed over the keys and the culprits madeoff with the two-day collections in a car parked outside. Passersby in the busy thoroughfare could not notice what was going on inside the shop since its exterior was done in dark tinted glass. Moreover, the shocked victims took some time to raise an alarm, giving the robbers enough time to flee.

An offense has been registered and the Mahatma Phule police are investigating. Both the Thane DCP (Crime) Suresh Ahire and the DCP (Zone III) Shrikant Savarkar visited the spot.

Gangster's body found
The bullet-riddled body of a notorious gangster was found near his residence at Kalachowki on Saturday afternoon.Said the police, area residents found the body of Chandrakant Krishna Chavan (45) lying in a pool of blood at around 2.30 pm near Chandrika Compound, Kalewadi, on G D Ambekar Marg . He was pumped with 13 rounds, which killed him on the spot. However, nobody in the area heard gunshots and it was unclear whether Chavan was gunned down elsewhere and the body dumped near his residence. Said theKalachowki police, Chavan was involved in two murder cases in their jurisdiction. He was also involved in an attempt to murder case at Aarey Milk Colony, besides 12 unreported cases including extortion, assault and rioting, the police added.
